I might have been 5 years old or around it, as I distinctively remember it was before I joined the 1st grade of school. I guess it was the first time in the theater or my memory of being in a theater. The movie that I was watching was Jurassic Park I. It has to be the first part because a decade later when I wanted to watch the new installment of the movie franchise Jurassic Park III, my dad brought home the previous two installments. We used to do that. Whenever there was a good movie, we used to bring the previous parts home…wait, what’s a good movie? How do you rate a movie as good or bad?
I never believed in reviews, because reviews are biased interpretation of one’s opinion and what they feel about it. It is not the actual truth. May be I like movies that generally suck (as per the reviews of a few renowned reviewers on the paper or online), may be I like the underlying message the movie tries to convey which probably the person reviewing missed because they were busy hating the movie (for reasons of their own, be it the actors or the storyline, or the director, a couple too many factors influence the movie). But a movie falls under the category of bad when the average rating falls beyond a reasonable point. But then again, may be this whole bunch of people just didn’t get the movie at all to even begin with. And hence, if I wanted to watch a movie I will still go and watch it in the theater even if the rating is … wait, I never look for the movie’s rating ever. I make my own opinions, my own interpretation and my own views after watching the movie, not influenced by anyone. That’s why I don’t even listen to people who start giving their opinion or start giving away the spoilers.
Jurassic Park I.
When I saw the movie for the first time ( please note that I had no recollection of the movie at the time of watching the movie), and as the movie progressed, I felt like I had already seen the movie. No, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t remember the whole story, I was 5 or may be less, so bear with my memory. I just remembered bits and pieces of the movie scenes. I guess some were the scary parts of the movie, while some just random. It’s fascinating how our mind remembers such intricate details. The only problem being it doesn’t remember anything if there is a exam today and the last night had been a endless marathon of notes, chapters and books. Why brain, why? Also, how we watch movies with utmost concentration, sometimes I don’t even realize that I haven’t blinked in 2 hours. Well, I guess that’s all I can tell about the first movie that I recollect. May be because I was binge watching and now it’s time to move on to the sequel.

Jurassic park part 1 was scary for me when I first watched it. I still remember how I avoided looking at the screen in between the scenes.
Ajay..I like it that you don’t see any ratings or reviews before watching a movie.I remember your post on Ae dil hai mushkil and you wrote that you loved the movie while everybody else hated it. But you are right..how can we judge a movie without watching it..right? Thanks for writing for #TadkaTuesday 🙂
I think I might have cried in the theater while watching the movie, I remember crying somewhere, but since I am not exactly sure, I gave that task of crying to my brother in my memory bank. 😛
Right? How can we? I guess we all should do that, but some people want to watch only the movies >8 rating. Can’t really say much about them.
And thank you for dropping by. 😀
Ah, my pleasure. 🙂
I don’t watch or read reviews either before the movie. I believe any kind of story telling, be it visual or written, is a very personal experience and the reader/ watcher is free to decipher it the way they want to.
I remember being very scared while watching Jurrasic Park the first time. I actually enjoyed the movie more when I watched it the second time, because i knew the twists and they didn’t scare me anymore.
Thank You for writing for #TadkaTuesday, loved the post Ajay 🙂
It indeed was a scary movie.I too write reviews for movies but I do not go ahead and watch all the movies. The actors or the directors has to have some credibility. Its a fun and creative thing to get into the minds of the people who actually make a movie.
It is , isn’t it?
I don’t usually write reviews but I make it a point to write when people keep criticising the movie for some lame reasons.
I guess it’s about watching movies that we want to watch without being prejudiced by anyone’s opinion. I don’t watch all movies either, but if I wanted to watch some movie, I will even if people say that it’s 1/10.
And high five to getting into the minds. I try to do exactly that.
